The Sprouts Room provides a warm and caring environment for the nine children that begin the year between ages 24 months to 35 months old. They, along with their three full time teachers explore the classroom activity areas and grow in all areas of development. Structured and small group activities are balanced with periods of free choice. Independence and self-help skills are encouraged, as are cooperation and learning to follow directions. The curriculum includes a variety of experiences in art, music, movement, dramatic play, cooking, science and nature, sensory and manipulatives. Our classroom fosters a love and enjoyment of literature through books and stories told and read by teachers and by maintaining a print-rich environment. We also use a variety of activities that encourage language development and social interactions. The children go outside to our outdoor classroom daily and occasionally spend time visiting places in the local community such as Crystal Lake, the Post Office, the Library, and the Fire Station. The teachers work together with parents as they navigate through their child’s developmental milestones.
